Inuyama Festival犬山祭

The Inuyama Festival is a religious event honoring the god at the Haritsuna Shrine located at the base of Inuyama Castle. It started in 1635 with a ceremonially decorated horse and a tea-leaf pickers procession. By 1641, the horse dedication was replaced with a float featuring mechanical puppets. By the start of the 18th century, the Inuyama Festival was established. Today, there are 13 floats and 3 processions maintained by the original 13 precincts in the castle town. These floats are known as "yama" in Inuyama.
