Kanmon Straits Fireworks Festival関門海峡花火大会

The Kanmon Straits Fireworks Festival is a spectacular event held annually in early August, organized by representatives from both Kitakyushu in Fukuoka Prefecture and Shimonoseki in Yamaguchi Prefecture. This festival features a breathtaking display of fireworks launched over the Kanmon Straits, the body of water separating the islands of Honshu and Kyushu.

What makes this festival unique is its dual perspective; spectators can enjoy the dazzling fireworks from both sides of the straits. The coordination between Kitakyushu and Shimonoseki ensures a synchronized and mesmerizing show that lights up the night sky, creating a beautiful bridge of light between the two cities.

With over 15,000 fireworks illuminating the straits, the Kanmon Straits Fireworks Festival attracts visitors from all over Japan, making it a must-see summer event that showcases the unity and cooperation between the regions of Kitakyushu and Shimonoseki.
