Seihakusai Festival青柏祭

The Seihakusai Festival is known for its large wheeled floats, called "dekayama" or "giant mountains", with the largest reaching 12 meters in height and weighing 20 tons. The floats, handmade annually and adorned with life-size figures from famous Kabuki plays, are paraded by volunteers through the streets of Nanao with chants and music. The turning of the floats at street corners is a highlight, with wooden wedges used to lift the front wheels and a secondary wheel put in place to rotate the float with the help of the volunteers.
