Tsuyama Gongo Festival津山納涼ごんごまつり

The Tsuyama Gongo Festival is a vibrant summer celebration that pays homage to the Kappa, a legendary water spirit known for its unique appearance in traditional Japanese folklore. These mythical creatures are often depicted as green, humanoid figures with webbed hands and feet, and distinctive turtle-like shells on their backs. In the local Tsuyama dialect, they are referred to as “Gongo”, which is synonymous with 'Kappa.'
