Echizen Ono Castle越前大野城

Echizen Ono Castle is classified as a "Hirayamajiro" (flatland-mountain) castle. It was constructed on Kameyama, with an elevation of around 249m, in the Ono basin northwest of Ono City. In 1575, Nobunaga Oda gave two thirds of the land of Ono-gun to Nagachika Kanamori, who then built the castle over a period of five years. The stone wall foundation of the castle was built using the "Nozurazumi" method, which involves stacking natural stones on top of each other. The current castle tower was rebuilt in 1968, based on historical pictures, drawings, and other examples of castles from the same period. The castle is closed to visitors during the winter, so please check the opening hours on the castle's website before planning your visit.
