Nakahara Chūya Memorial Museum中原中也記念館
The Nakahara Chūya Memorial Museum is dedicated to preserving the life and works of the late poet Nakahara Chūya, who was born on April 29, 1907, and passed away on October 22, 1937. Situated in Yamaguchi at the location of his birthplace (the original structures, aside from a storehouse and chashitsu, were destroyed by fire in 1972), the museum opened its doors in 1994.
The museum is divided into three sections: the permanent exhibition, the annual theme exhibition, and several rotating special exhibitions. The permanent exhibition provides insight into Chūya's accomplishments as a poet and offers a glimpse into the last thirty years of his life through his own words and the testimonies of those who knew him. Each year, the theme exhibition is changed to explore different aspects of Chūya's work, and the special exhibitions are updated several times a year. In addition to the indoor exhibitions, there is also an outdoor display. Visitors can further immerse themselves in Chūya's world through books, videos, and music available at the museum.
