Dating back to the 8th century, Tamatsukuri Onsen is said to have been a bathing site for gods once a year since Japan's creation, according to the myth of Izanagi and Izanami. Mentioned as early as 733 in the Izumo Fudoki, an ancient record of the culture and geography of the Izumo Province.
