Ushiku Daibutsu牛久大仏

The Ushiku Daibutsu is a towering bronze statue of Amitabha Buddha that was built in 1993 to honor the founder of the Jōdo Shinshū or "True Pure Land School" of Buddhism, Shinran. Standing at an impressive 120 meters tall, including the 10-meter base and 10-meter lotus platform, and weighing 4,003 tonnes, it is one of the tallest statues in the world. The statue features panel exhibitions inside where visitors can learn about the history and world of Buddhism. The statue is located within the Jodo Garden, which also includes a small animal park and flower fields. The Ushiku Daibutsu is part of the Ushikujoen complex, which also includes a park cemetery.
