Yamamachi山町筋

Yamamachi is a historic merchant town situated in the Takaoka City. The town is renowned for its traditional buildings, which form the picturesque townscape of Yamamachi-suji. Many of the original buildings were destroyed in a fire after the Meiji era, however, fireproof buildings with storehouse construction were built in compliance with Toyama Prefecture's laws and regulations. Today, the town still retains much of its traditional character and in 2000 it was recognized as the National Important Traditional Building Group Preservation District. The town is also the host of the famous Takaoka Mikuruma-yama Festival.
