Tokyo Mobility Showジャパンモビリティショー

The Tokyo Motor Show (TMS) is a biennial automotive exhibition that takes place in October to November at the Tokyo Big Sight in Tokyo, Japan. Hosted by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA), the show features a range of vehicles including cars, motorcycles, and commercial vehicles. Recognized internationally by the Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d'Automobiles (OICA), the Tokyo Motor Show is known for showcasing numerous concept cars in addition to actual production vehicle introductions. This reputation places it alongside other major motor shows like those in Detroit, Geneva, Frankfurt, and Paris.

Initially named the All Japan Motor Show, the event's history dates back to its inaugural showcase in Hibiya Park. The debut in 1954 featured 254 exhibitors displaying 267 vehicles, with a focus on commercial rather than passenger vehicles. Over time, the venue shifted due to construction and weather considerations. The event became biennial from 1973, partially due to global energy concerns.

In 1989, the show found a home at Makuhari Messe, and eventually moved to its current location at Tokyo Big Sight in 2011. The event has oscillated between being an annual and biennial exhibition, with periods of focus on both passenger and commercial vehicles, including motorcycles and auto parts.

Notably, the 2021 Tokyo Motor Show was canceled, marking the first time in its 67-year history, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Looking forward, the 2023 edition will be rebranded as the Japan Mobility Show, incorporating a wider range of automobile-related industries beyond just vehicles. The Tokyo Motor Show's history reflects its evolution into a prominent global automotive event, showcasing technological advancements and shaping industry trends.
