Journey to Experience the Authentic Art of Kanazawa Geisha金沢芸妓のほんものの芸にふれる旅
Geishas are female Japanese entertainers who specialise in traditional Japanese arts, including music and dance. They have been a staple of Japanese culture since the Edo period, performing in specialized venues known as "chaya." Today, visitors to chaya can enjoy geisha dance performances and hear traditional Japanese instruments such as the shamisen, bamboo flute, and drum.
Kanazawa boasts three teahouse districts - Higashi, Nishi, and Kazue-machi - and around 40 geishas who carry on the traditional art of hospitality. Visitors can experience this ancient beauty from April to the following March on certain Saturdays. To plan your visit, check the event website for specific dates.
