Summer Grand Festival大野湊神社夏季大祭

The Summer Grand Festival is a festival dedicated to the two deities enshrined in the Onominato Shrine, Amaterasu Omikami and Sarutahiko Okami. The exact date of the festival's origin is unknown, but it is believed to have been held as early as the mid-Kan'ei period (1624-1645). The festival includes a procession on the first day, during which a portable shrine, called mikoshi, dedicated the two deities is carried from the Onominato Shrine to a "former" location in Kanaiwa town. The last day of the festival features a return procession. Additionally, traditional dances, rituals, and competitions are held. The procession is the largest in Kanazawa City and the festival as a whole is designated as a Kanazawa City Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
