Ichinomiya Shrine一宮神社 (徳島市)

The Ichinomiya Shrine is a Shinto temple situated in the Ichinomiya neighborhood of Tokushima city. The shrine is located beside the ruins of Ichinomiya Castle. It was established during the latter half of the Heian period near the provincial capital and was originally the main shrine of the province. During the premodern era of shinbutsu-shūgō, where Buddhism and Shinto were intertwined, the Juichimen Kannon, a revered entity in Buddhism, was worshipped as the primary deity at the shrine. However, with the separation of Buddhism and Shinto during the early Meiji period, the shrine and temple were separated, with the Juichimen Kannon being transferred to the temple.

The enshrined kami at the shrine are Ōgetsuhime-no-Mikoto, the goddess of food, and Amaterasu, the sun goddess and one of the major gods in Shinto religion.

The Honden of the Ichinomiya Shrine, built in 1630, has been designated as a National Important Cultural Property.
