Maruoka Castle丸岡城
Maruoka Castle, also known as Kasumi-ga-jō (Mist Castle), is a hirayama-style Japanese castle located in the Maruoka neighbourhood of the city of Sakai in Fukui Prefecture. It is said to be hidden by a thick mist when an enemy approaches. Built at the end of the Sengoku period, it was occupied by a succession of daimyō under the Edo period Tokugawa shogunate. Now it serves as a public park, famous for its cherry blossoms. Its tenshu (castle keep) is considered to be the oldest in the country, although this claim is challenged by both Inuyama Castle and Matsumoto Castle.
