Nakamise-dōri仲見世通り

Nakamise-dōri, a street leading to Sensō-ji temple, originated in the early 18th century when shopkeepers were allowed to set up businesses along the temple approach. However, in 1885, the Tokyo government forced shop closures. The street was then rebuilt with Western-style brick in December of the same year. In 1923, the Great Kantō earthquake resulted in destruction of many shops, which were later reconstructed using concrete in 1925. During World War II, the street faced destruction once again due to bombing. With a length of 250 meters and 89 shops, Nakamise-dōri remains a popular shopping street.
