Nara Kingyo Museum奈良金魚ミュージアム

Japan's largest goldfish museum is located in Nara Prefecture, a top 3 goldfish-growing region. Displays by leading artists center around the theme of "goldfish." Experience unique features like projection mapping, flowers, terrariums, and mirror balls. The museum showcases a variety of common to rare goldfish species, all bred in Yamatokoriyama City. Approx. 3,000 goldfish swim elegantly in the aquariums. The museum offers a multi-sensory experience with "soothing," "surprising," and "impressive" spaces that transcend a traditional goldfish museum.

7 art spaces feature projection mapping, light, stained glass, and mirrors crafted by various artists, creating fantastical environments. The swimming goldfish are part of the art, and their expressions are a sight to behold.

Highlights

  • Japanese Aquarium Disco

Japan's traditional four seasons, goldfish, advanced technology, and mirror balls come together for a mirror ball disco. The world's first diamond-cut fish tank is on display, featuring a brilliant cut that spreads light throughout the tank for an internally reflected sparkle. Experience the stunning world and thrill of the event.

  • Japone Komichi

Experience the captivating atmosphere of an Edo street scene at this aquarium. Marvel at Japan's four seasons - spring's cherry blossoms, autumn's red-golden leaves, and more. Be greeted by 21 traditional Japanese umbrellas, beautifully lit with colorful art and charming Japanese beauty.

  • Aqua Oasis

This captivating aquarium showcases goldfish that appear like living jewels. Enjoy the sight of them swimming in an underwater forest oasis, backed by a colorful fantasy projection mapping on a 12m wall. Indulge in the unique, soothing experience of healing only found here.

  • Trick Art

Capture magical photographs with trick art, where you can ride on goldfish backs or scoop them. The pictures are painted directly on the wall, showcasing the brushwork as well. Don't miss out on this unique experience.

  • Five Hundred Goldfish

The display features goldfish created in partnership with Yanai Goldfish Lanterns from Yamaguchi Prefecture, made with the intention of connecting people through "bonds" across the country. Over 500 handcrafted goldfish lanterns, each made by skilled artisans, were brought together by UWS ENTERTAINMENT.

  • Human Aquarium

Experience being a goldfish in the unique "human aquarium", the only one of its kind in Japan. It's about 10 times larger than a regular home aquarium and lets you know how fish feel. Equipped with human-sized aqua plants and a bubbling filter, immerse yourself in the underwater world.

  • Infinite Goldfish

Humans discovered a unique type of crucian carp approximately 1,700 years ago that was different in color from the rest and considered it beautiful. Could this be the origin of humankind's "beauty aesthetic" after the discovery of goldfish and an appreciation for differences and diversity? Goldfish continue to evolve with no two having exactly the same color, shape, or pattern, reminding us of the infinite possibilities of life.
