Toyama Castle

Toyama Castle, located in the heart of Toyama city, is a flatland-style Japanese castle that was originally constructed in 1543. Now maintained as a public park by the government of Japan, the castle has a history of burning down, with fires occurring in 1899 and 1933. In order to preserve the castle's legacy, a replica of the main keep was built in 1954 and now serves as a home for the Toyama Local History Museum and the Sato Memorial Art Museum, which boasts a collection of tea ceremony utensils and antiques. The only remaining original parts of the castle are the Chiyoda Gate and some sections of the original moats and stonework.
