Udo-jingū鵜戸神宮

Udo-jingū is a shrine located on the Udozaki coastline, built within a cave overlooking the ocean. It is known for its striking red architecture and is dedicated to the Shinto god Ugayafukiaezu no Mikoto, who is believed to be the father of the first Emperor Jinmu. According to legends, Ugayafukiaezu was born here by the sea goddess Toyotamahime. Despite the tragic story of his parents' separation, the shrine is thought to have powers that can grant fertility and safe childbirth, as well as bring harmony to romantic relationships. Visitors can throw clay balls called "Undama" to make a wish. If you throw it into the pool “Masugata” on the rock in front of the main shrine, legend says that your wish will come true. Tradition dictates that men should throw with their left hand and women with their right.
