Suhoteisai Festival数方庭祭

This unusual festival has earned the nickname "the strangest festival of the world." It is said to have originated over 1800 years ago, when the 14th Emperor Chūai established it to commemorate his victory and pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the battle.

Today, it has been recognized as an intangible cultural property of Yamaguchi. During a seven-day period, boys carry banners while girls dance around the demon stone "Onishi" with bamboo lanterns, handbells, and drums every night. These banners can be up to 30 meters long and weigh 100 kg, requiring extensive training to handle.
