Shijimizuka site蜆塚遺跡
The Shijimizuka ruins are an archaeological site in Naka-ku, Hamamatsu, which contains remains from the late to final Jōmon period, including a settlement trace and shell middens. Four areas around the central square have been found to have the ruins of residences and cemeteries. Excavations have uncovered numerous artefacts such as accessories, pottery, weapons, and tools, providing insight into life during the period of habitation, estimated to be from 2000 BC to 1000 BC. The site was opened as an archaeological park in 1984 and several pit dwelling reconstructions are available to view.
