Ichinomiya Castle Ruins一宮城 (阿波国)

The Ichinomiya Castle was a mountain fortress built in 1338 by the Osagawara clan, who were appointed to govern the Awa domain. During the conflict between Emperor Godaigo and Ashikaga Takauji, the founder of the Muromachi shogunate, the Osagawara supported the Emperor. However, with the Emperor's defeat, the castle was taken from the Osagawara and given to the Ichinomiya clan. Over several centuries, the Ichinomiya family ruled the castle until Hachisuka Iemasa took control. Despite supporting Motochika Chosokabe in a conflict against the Miyoshi, Motochika mistrusted the Ichinomiya and removed their control over the castle, ruling it directly himself. The castle was finally dismantled as part of the "one domein one castle rule" policy in 1615. Today, only a few parts of the castle remains, such as the bailey walls and stairs.
