Utasu Jinja Shrine宇多須神社

The Bishamon shrine, also known as Tamontensha, was established more than 1250 years ago and dedicated to Tamonten. In 1599, Toshiie Maeda, the founder of the Maeda Clan and a leading general under Oda Nobunaga, was enshrined here and the shrine was renamed Utatsu Hachimangu Shrine, dedicated to the kami Hachiman. For generations, the shrine served as a place of prayer for the local lords. However, during the Meiji period in 1873, the shrine's main object of worship was transferred to the Oyama-Jinja shrine. Today, Utasu-Jinja is considered one of the five great shrines in Kanazawa.
